Objective: Analyze and identify accessibility issues in your course or course materials by using a combination of Ally and ID Services Accessibility Checklist. Determine a path of action to improve your course accessibility.
Time: 1 hour
Points/Grade: Complete / Not complete
Instructions:
- Open your course in Moodle.
- Open and review the ID Services Accessibility Checklist.
- Review one module or a portion of one of your courses. Be sure to look at documents that you uploaded directly to Moodle and/or Moodle pages you created. What to look for:
- Ally gauges. Are you in the red/gear to the left, yellow/gear in the middle or green/gear to the right? Choose a document and explore Ally options.
- Compare your document or Moodle page to the standards listed on the ID Services Accessibility Checklist. How are you doing? You will notice some of the standards are common issues you are already aware of, some may be new and need more explanation, and some you may need professional help with.
- Identify a path of action. Which of the following apply to the given documents or Moodle pages?
- Self-help: Issues you are aware of and can easily correct such as font sizes and colors
- Need more explanation: Use the Lane CC Web Accessibility Handbook as a reference and/or Ally to see if you can make the corrections for issues like adding image alternative tags or how to tag a PDF
- Call in the professionals: Contact the ATC (atc@lanecc.edu) or ID Services (idservices@lanecc.edu) for issues such as closed captioning of videos, old PDFs that are not accessible or if you just need a helping hand!
- Post a synopsis of your experience to the Reflection Forum. Things to consider in your reflection:
- Is the ID Services Accessibility Checklist easy to understand and follow?
- Could you easily identify problems and possible solutions to your course's accessibility issues? (identity as: Self-help, Need more explanation or Call in the professionals)
- Did you use the Lane CC Web Accessibility Handbook as a reference?
- What are a few of the key components of your course you could work on?
- Anything else?
How will I know when I've completed this?
